Moffat man charged with sexual assault of a child

SAGUACHE — According to Saguache County Undersheriff James McCloskey, a Moffat man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Saguache County.
Danny Campbell, 45, of Moffat was arrested Aug. 3 on several charges in addition to the assault, including child abuse of the victim, domestic violence perpetrated against one of the girl’s caregivers, and menacing.
He was held in the Saguache County Jail without bond pending an advisement hearing Monday, when bond was set for $50,000. As of press time, Campbell had not bonded out.
McCloskey said the investigation to this date indicates the sexual abuse probably has been ongoing since the girl was 11. A female relative alerted the sheriff’s office to the abuse.
The investigation is ongoing, McCloskey said, and further information will be released at a later date. Campbell is set to appear in court Aug. 16 for filing of charges.
