Marijuana applicant surrenders license

SAGUACHE COUNTY — For the second time in the past three months, an applicant seeking to grow marijuana in Saguache County has surrendered his license although the details of the most recent surrender are not readily available.
The Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) database reported that Gregory Gershengorin voluntarily surrendered his license on Jan. 19. The property where the grow was to be located is owned by VLG LLC.
In November, Michael Barkl was charged with several felonies related to falsifying information on his state licensing application with the MED. Barkl has automatically forfeited his license based on the charges. His application with Saguache County in Ewing Estates recently expired.
Corpore Sano was the name of Gershengorin’s operation. It was located on County Road 59 in Moffat. When reviewed by the Saguache County Planning Commission in April, it brought the largest volume of comments, with nearby resident Lisa Rosen advising applicant Gregory Gershengorin he is surrounded on all sides by illegal grows.
At the meeting, Gershengorin revealed he would be extracting oils on site and Rosen warned that if anything happened, the entire area “will go up like a tinderbox in this drought.” Volunteer fire departments in the area would not be able to do anything, she noted.
Gershengorin replied that he has no control over such activity but that his presence could eventually drive illegal grows out of the area.
A citizen from the Villa Grove area said he felt it was his duty to notify the commission that Gershengorin had ties to South America and the owner of the company, although listed as a Miami, Fla., resident, was originally from Venezuela. He said he felt these ties should be investigated further before approving the grow.
PC member Bill McClure chastised the Villa Grove man, telling him that what he had just said had no bearing on the grow approval and should not have been brought up. The Villa Grove resident told McClure he would do well to look into it. The commission dismissed the resident’s objections and approved the grow.
The following flow chart shows Gershengorin’s connections which led to his license surrender.
