SAGUACHE— The Moffat/Mountain Valley Girl’s High School basketball season ended Feb.19 in the second round of playoff action with 11 wins and seven losses. The girls lost a well-fought game against the number three seed, Sierra Grande Panthers.
MVS/Moffat girls lead the Panthers at the end of the first quarter and at the end of the first half, but the Panther’s experience (four starting seniors) eventually overtook the amazing Moffat/Mountain Valley athletes in the second half.
“What an amazing performance this year,” Mountain Valley School Superintendent Travis Garoutte said last week in his article on the season finale. “Eleven wins and seven losses, something these girls can be extremely proud of — a great team effort. Our 11 girls got to this point with hard work and true dedication to the sport of basketball.”
Garoutte commended the girls for their dedication, noting they spent three straight months of practicing four nights a week, usually playing two games per weekend, Sunday off to rest, then hitting it hard again on Monday.
The girl’s coaching staff is extremely proud of this group, he added, and is already looking forward to next year’s season. Garoutte invites the community to “Please come out next year and watch this up-and-coming girls’ basketball team; excitement guaranteed.”
He also asks community members to please congratulate these fine young athletes on their tremendous season. And thanked them for providing fans with a fun and exciting season. Coaches for the team are Scott and Pearl Alexander.
