SLV Rattlers gearing up for season, seeking participants

SAN LUIS VALLEY— The San Luis Valley Rattlers is a high school mountain bike team. Any student in ninth through 12th grade may participate. Riders may choose to participate in four regular season mountain bike races and could qualify for the state championship in Durango. Races will be every other weekend in Nathrop, Leadville, Snowmass and Eagle starting on Aug. 25.
The first practices will be on Tuesday through Thursday, July 30 to Aug. 1. Practices will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week on local trails such as Stone Quarry, Limekiln, and Proghorn.
On Aug. 3, the team will be the marshals for the Bee’s Knees 5K Run in Del Norte. After the 5K, the team will have a clinic on changing tires and fixing chains. This clinic will be followed by a short practice.
The cost to join the team is $70. If you cannot afford this cost, scholarships are available. For more information contact the coaches:
