MONTE VISTA — With a beautiful day there were 16 teams participating in the 2017 Sgt. Glen Martinez Veterans Golf Tournament held at the Monte Vista Golf Course on May 28.
The team of Ben and George Kelloff, Jimmy Gonzales and Dwight Barlow took first place with a score of 61 beating out the second place team with a score of 63, comprised of Marty Golden, Lyle Dye, Mark Haas and Rick Stecklein. The third place team with a score of 64 was Greg, Frank and John Hindes and Anthony Murry.
The Martinez family thanked Brian Roberts, D.D.S., for being a hole sponsor and also being a team sponsor for the Jake Mellott golf team.
David Hinkley, O.D., Rio Grande Savings and Loan and Ben Kelloff also sponsored a hole.
The Martinezes also thanked the City of Monte Vista for the use of cones for the race, Jed Ellithorpe for the donation of potatoes and Top Choice Store for the donation of meat for the meal served to golfers after the tournament.
Golf balls were donated by Ronnie Swartz and his company from Ray, N.D. Monogrammed on each ball was “Our Hero Sgt. Glen Martinez” and the number 65 commemorating Glen’s football and baseball jersey numbers.
The Martinez family appreciates all the participants who gave up their Sunday to honor Glen and golf.
Thanks also go to Max Whittmer for all the hard work preparing the golf course and to those who prepared the delicious meal for the golfers, served the meal and registered golfers — Ingrid Watson, Ashley Watson and Alyssia Torres.
It was a very successful day.
