Sanford Indians struggle to find groove against Center

CENTER—The Sanford Indians couldn’t keep up with Center and fell 15-4 and 11-1 in Saturday’s double header.
In the first game the Indians started productively, scoring four runs in the first inning.
But Center evened things up in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs, two on a Tejay Kemery single.
Center pulled away for good with eight runs in the second inning. In the second Cristian Guaderrama doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Marco Hernandez homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, Guy Larsen’s wild pitch allowed one run to score for Center, Ismael Palacios singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs for Center.
Patrick Mortensen toed the rubber for Center. He went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out 10.
Larsen toed the rubber for Sanford; he lasted four innings, allowing 11 hits and 15 runs while striking out five.
Brent Frazier, Brady Blinzinger, Maguire Peterson, Gartrell and Thad Jackson all had one hit to lead Sanford Indians Varsity.
Center tallied 11 hits on the day. Guaderrama, Kevin Miramontes and Hernandez each collected multiple hits for Center.

Sanford watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 11-1 loss to Center in the second game of the Saturday’s double header. Center scored on a groundout by Marco Hernandez and a single by Marcus Smith in the first inning.
The Indians struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Center, giving up 11 runs.
Center fired up the offense in the first inning. Hernandez grounded out, scoring one run.
Center scored five runs in the fourth inning. Center’s big inning was driven by an error on a ball put in play by Smith and Ismael Palacios, a single by Ripper Fitz, a groundout by Miramontes and a double by Robbie Cortez.
Guaderrama was on the mound for Center. He surrendered one run on three hits over five innings, striking out five and walking zero.
Maguire Peterson led things off on the hill for Sanford Indians Varsity. He allowed seven hits and 11 runs over four innings, striking out three.
Blinzinger, Gartrell and Jackson each managed one hit to lead Sanford Indians Varsity.
Center saw the ball well today, racking up seven hits in the game. Mortensen, Cortez, and Fitz all had multiple hits for Center. Center didn’t commit a single error in the field. Mortensen had five chances in the field, the most on the team. Smith led Center with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases.
