CENTER— Longtime Valley resident Ruth Mary Archuleta, 84, passed away on July 26, 2017.
She was born on April 24, 1933 in Center to Geodoro and Estella Vigil; she was raised by her grandmother Erlinda Lobato. She was a member of the St. Francis Jerome Catholic Church in Center and a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Ruth was a teacher and cook for Center Headstart for over 20 years.
Ruth is survived by her children, Stanley (Lana) Archuleta of Colorado Springs, Lori Ann Archuleta of Alamosa, Brian Archuleta of Center, Vivian Archuleta of Center, Corrine (Geronimo) Gardea of Center, Valerie (Nicolas) Chavez of La Garita; she raised Nicole Archuleta of Center, Eric (Kathleen) Archuleta of Center, Jarren (Mandy) Archuleta of Monte Vista, Daisy Ojeda of Grand Junction, Nathanael (Corin) Archuleta of Centennial and April Archuleta of Colorado Springs, as well as 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, her siblings, Christine Kayle, Raymond Vigil, Maryann Mondragon, Merlee Montoya, Delores Gallegos, Joe Vigil, Johnny Vigil Angie Vigil, Tommy Vigil and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leandro Archuleta, her son Gordon Ray Archuleta, her daughters Rhonda Kay Archuleta and Denise Marie Archuleta and her siblings, Cecil Rivera, Elizabeth Avila, Walter Vigil and a great granddaughter Anastasia.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at the St Francis Jerome Catholic Church in Center, a vigil service with recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, also at the church in Center. Burial will follow services in the Monte Vista Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the St. Francis Jerome Catholic Church or to the Alzheimers Association and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
