SAGUACHE COUNTY — The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a resurfacing project to improve Colorado Highway 112 near the community of Center in south-central Colorado begin on Friday, April 12. The work will greatly enhance safety for rural travelers and the local agriculture industry on this two-lane highway. The project was contracted to APC Southern Construction, of Golden, for $3.6 million and is expected to be completed in July 2019.
The project will include a resurfacing overlay, sign and delineator replacement and new pavement markings on 14 miles of CO 112. The community of Center will also see construction of curb ramps and new sidewalks. The ramp and sidewalk improvements are part of a statewide initiative for communities to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act to provide functional accessibility to all travelers using our state and US highways. Project improvements will begin at the junction of CO 112 and US Highway 285 at mile post 13.3, and continue through the town of Center to the junction of CO 112 and CO 17 at 27.8.

Traffic impacts
Project work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (daylight hours), Monday through Friday. Motorist will experience the following travel impacts:
Delays of up to 15 minutes
Alternating single-lane traffic through the work zone
12-foot width restriction both the eastbound and westbound during project work hours from April 15 through July 2019.
Speed limit reduced to 40 MPH outside the town of Center and 30 MPH within the town limits

Do not speed in work zones; obey the posted speed limits.
Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
Watch for workers; drive with caution.
Don’t change lanes unnecessarily.
Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
Anticipate lane shifts, and merge when directed to do so.
