No citations issued in pile-up on Highway 17

SAGUACHE COUNTY — According to Colorado State Trooper Ramiro Contreras, he and other troopers assisted in covering a seven-vehicle pile-up Tuesday, April 17 along Highway 17 south of Saguache County Road G.
The pile-up occurred owing to weather related conditions that impaired drivers› vision, (i.e., dirt blowing across the highway which lead to zero visibility at times). All vehicles were northbound. The accident occurred when the tow lead vehicles stopped owing to zero visibility because of blowing dirt. Those behind them then crashed into the second vehicle and each other’s vehicles.
Two Saguache County residents and one Rio Grande County resident were transported to San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Katherine Kennedy, 48, of Crestone received unspecified injuries, Jennifer Riddle, 45, of Moffat was suffering from a blow to the head and Jeremy Robinson, 42, of Monte Vista complained of undetermined injuries.
Contreras said there will be no citations issued to drivers involved in the accident.
