Letter to the Editor: Tom McCracken for County Commissioner

To the editor:
As we face unprecedented times, we believe it is important to keep in mind that decisions we make now will affect our future. With this in mind we are writing in support of Tom McCracken as county commissioner. Many of us have known Tom and his wife Lillian for many years and find Tom to be well-informed about the issues that will drive the development of our community in the future.

Tom has a vision for this community that includes development of local resources, such as use of the trail system, to promote visitors coming here to appreciate the natural environment we live in. His vision includes the development of green industries, to support local residents. His lifetime work has focused on the production and distribution of organic produce to increase the physical health of us all. He has run a tree planting business to help restore the environment. He is active in maintaining the water resources, so essential to life in our high desert community. Tom understands the local environment both in a scientific way and as a neighbor who has lived here since the 1980s.

We believe we are at a crossroads in Crestone and Saguache County about what type of mindset we will take into the future. Will our part of the Valley maintain a mindset that incorporates the beauty and value of the area we live in, a more rural view, or will we develop a more suburban, urban mindset that loses sight of the land and values of small-town living that we moved here to embrace? We support Tom as we believe he will focus our development on solutions that align with this unique community we live in.
