James Oliver Meyer, 95

ALAMOSA— James O. Meyer passed away Feb. 9, 2019. Jim was born in Superior, Wis. In 1923, but spent his childhood in Creede, where he and his twin sister Joann were raised by their stepfather, Jack Comstock.
During this time Jim was known as James Comstock. He left Creede in 1940 and eventually joined the Army in 1943. During World War II, he served with the 164th Infantry in the Pacific Theater as CPL and T Sargent. He received the following awards: Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, Distinguished Unit Badge GO 107 HG 146th Infantry. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and resided in southern California with his wife and two children for several years.
He later moved to Alaska, where he lived for many years. In 1996, he returned to Creede for a class reunion, where he became reacquainted with a former classmate, Genevieve Hargraves. Both being single, they were married later that same year. They resided in Creede for several months, ventured to Alaska for several months and eventually settled in Eckert, Colo., where they lived for about 10 years.
In 2010, they moved to the Bridge in Alamosa, where they lived until their passing, Genevieve in 2015 and Jim in 2019.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Eva May Meyer, his sister Joann and his wife Genevieve.
He is survived by daughter Georgia (Bonnie), son Casey and three stepdaughters Patricia Hansen, Nancy Ott and Kim Hargraves Tyrrell.
Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held at the Bridge in Alamosa on Feb. 22, 2019.
