James (Jim) Monroe Gustin, Sr, 58

SAGUACHE - James (Jim) Gustin passed away at home on Dec. 4, 2019, with his loving wife Carol by his side. Jim was born April 18, 1962, in Hugo, Colorado  He was the son of Isaac (Ike) and Jessie (Simmons) Gustin. He united in marriage with Carol Teckenbrock Gustin May 22, 1982.
Jim resided in Colorado Springs, CO, before moving to the San Luis Valley in 1980. He was a garage door installer for Overhead Door Company. In 1989 Jim opened his own business. He retired in 2003 due to health issues.
Jim loved being in the outdoors. His favorite things to do were archery hunting, fishing and finding arrowheads. Jim was a caring person and always offered a helping hand. He also had a penchant for inventing ingenious ways to solve everyday technical problems. Music was an important part of his life, and he always had it playing. Jim loved the simple life of living in the Valley surrounded its abundant beauty.
Jim’s parents preceded him in death. Jim is survived by his wife Carol of 37 years (Saguache), son James M. Gustin, Jr (Massachusetts), daughter Jessica Gustin and companion James Duran (Alamosa), brother Bob (Chris) Gustin (Indiana), sisters Rosemari Gustin (Wisconsin), Donna (Ken) Beaver (Colorado Springs, CO), and Ruth (Herbert) Mabie (Aurora, CO), many cousins, nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews), special friends Paul and Denise Laverack (Aurora, CO), and his cousin Donald (Debra) Gustin (Littleton, CO) who was like a brother to him. Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2020.
