High-speed chase suspect sought

MOFFAT — A man who led police on a high-speed chase Sunday after ingesting psychotropic mushrooms successfully eluded state troopers and Saguache County Sheriff’s Office deputies, but the sheriff’s office is confident he will be apprehended.
The identity of the suspect is not currently known, but authorities said he was driving his uncle’s car and they have been in touch with the uncle.
The chase began at the junctions of highways 285 and 17 about 7:30 p.m. Saguache deputies were debriefed at the Dollar General in Moffat then were later advised the suspect’s vehicle, a late 1990s blue Jeep Grande Cherokee, had been spotted off Rita Alta Trail Head. The suspect was described as “wandering around aimlessly” in the area.
As law enforcement officials moved up to County Road AA, they were advised the vehicle was southbound a few miles east of County Road 64. Shortly after the spotting, Colorado State Patrol (CSP) lost visual contact with the vehicle.
Visual contact was later re-established at 9:27 p.m. as the vehicle headed southwest on 64. Saguache County deputies set up spike strips at County Road 65 and T in hopes of stopping the vehicle.
Later the sheriff’s office was advised by CSP they had spoken with the suspect. They later spoke with the man’s uncle, but the suspect escaped. He was last sited near Lazy KV Estates.
A post on Facebook provided a description of the man driving, a black male wearing a dark hoodie, license plate number: ADCA09. The post described the man as armed and dangerous and advised anyone spotting him to call 911.
