Handgun permit course set

DEL NORTE — A concealed handgun firearm training course will be offered by the Rio Grande County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 24 and 25. This will be an eight-hour course and will satisfy requirements for a concealed firearm carry permit upon successful completion.
There is no charge for the course.
The course will run from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, at the Rio Grande County Sheriff’s Office, 640 Cherry Street, Del Norte. This session will be classroom study. Bring firearm for inspection. No ammunition please. There will be four hours of training in the use and proficiency of a firearm.
Saturday, Aug. 25 will be held at the Rio Grande Sportsman Club at 8 a.m. for live fire proficiency. The sportsman club is located between Monte Vista and Del Norte on Highway 160 and Rifle Range Road.
A modern center fire or rim fire handgun will be acceptable upon completion of a safety and function check by on-site armors. A suitable hip holster will be required for training. No cross draw or shoulder holsters allowed. Fifteen rounds of factory practice ammunition are required. Hearing protection and eye protection will be required. A ball cap for sun protection and proper clothing are recommended.
Classroom size is limited to 25. Please register early. Register by bringing or mailing a registration form to the sheriff’s office. The registration form should have name, date of birth, address, city, telephone, email, make and model of firearm, caliber of firearm and a copy of the driver’s license as well as any reasons why registrant cannot lawfully possess a firearm.
