MONTE VISTA— On a beautiful Saturday, May 25, the Monte Vista Golf Course welcomed 47 men and women to participate in the 10th Annual Glen Martinez 5K Run/Walk.

The annual event is held to honor and remember U.S. Marine Sgt. Glen Martinez, age 31 who was killed in action along with three other Marines when the Humvee they were riding in hit a roadside bomb in Iraq on May 2, 2008.

Among the runners were two active duty Marines back from Japan, one of which, a cousin to Glen Martinez. The pair had traveled from Twentynine Palms, Calif. the night before the race and reached Monte Vista at 4:30 a.m. just in time to catch a few winks before competing that day. Not only did they compete but they placed second and third in their age division (15-20). The first place Men 5K runner, Line Benton, also performed well, recording one of the fastest times to date at 18:41:45.
Following are the results from the Glen Martinez 5K Memorial Run/Walk.
