RIO GRANDE COUNTY — A Center resident drowned in the Rio Grande River on Friday afternoon, according to Rio Grande County Sheriff Brian Norton.
Norton released a statement on Monday that on Friday July 13, at 4:26 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received of a possible drowning on the Rio Grande at the County Road 5 North bridge.
Upon arrival authorities found that four adult individuals had been at the river, and one of the females and two of the male individuals had been swimming when one of the male individuals went missing.
A search of the river was conducted. The body of Macgeorge Bahe, 31, of Center, was located and recovered from the pool below the bridge and was taken to the Rio Grande Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Alcohol or drugs is possibly a factor, according to the sheriff’s office. An investigation is being conducted.
Arrangements are pending with Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa, and the family has set up a Gofundme page to assist with funeral arrangements.
