Center Conservation District celebrates 75th anniversary

CENTER—The Center Conservation District is celebrating 75 years in 2019. The district has come to be recognized for its tradition of service to local producers, small-acre landowners and various agriculture and education efforts throughout Saguache County, the San Luis Valley and Colorado.
The district is a part of a larger consortium of the five conservation districts that make up the Rio Grande Watershed Association of Conservation Districts. Other districts include the Conejos Conservation District, Costilla Conservation District, Mosca-Hooper Conservation District and the Rio Grande Conservation District. Through collaborative partnerships, each of the districts works with area landowners on a wide variety of resource management issues, along with keeping them informed about the latest advances in soil, water and resource conservation.
The mission of the Center Conservation District is “The prudent use and adequate treatment of all land, water, and related resources within its boundaries, to sustain the use of these resources for future generations and to restore that portion of these resources damaged through improper use. The District boundaries encompass all of the lands in Saguache County except for previously excluded areas and totals 1.5 million acres.
The Center Conservation District has also gained recognition for its achievements.  Those achievements include being named the Colorado State Conservation Board, District of the Year for four years (2008-2011).
A celebration to honor the 75th anniversary is being planned later this month. More information will follow.
