B&G Club receives bike, helmet donations

CENTER — In the spring and fall, the Center Boys and Girls Club hosts a bike club for members that teaches safe riding practices and encourages youngsters to exercise and enjoy the outdoors.
Boys and Girls Club assistant director Ofelia Gonzalez explained in a news release last week that about 30 club members participate in the club, which runs from late August until the end of October. The club will restart next spring.
The biggest club event this year was a bike rodeo held Oct. 5 with about 86 students from Center Schools participating. The rodeo offered fun activities and lessons in bike safety.
But without the help of community members, the bike club could never have been possible, Gonzalez explained.
“We would really like to thank our members and the community who made this seasonal bike club possible,” she said. The donations made to our club in the form of helmets, bikes really made a difference in the success of our program.”
Gonzalez thanked Rainbow’s End in Center for donating over 10 helmets. She also recognized Patrick Eastern for donating several helmets and two small bikes.
A special big thanks goes out to Los Arregados for its donation of six brand new bikes to the club. “Their willingness to help and support us for the bike club is greatly appreciated and noted,” Gonzalez said. “We don’t have enough bikes for all our members to ride so their donation was a great addition to our program.”
Los Arregados’ and the other donations reflect the community’s “supportive spirit and dedication to the positive development of our youth,” she concluded.
